CRA Cares About Your Marital Status
Are you newly married? Living common-law? Recently separated or divorced? Recently widowed? If your marital status changes, it’s important to let the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) know as soon as possible; for most changes, by the end of the month following the month your status changed, but not for 90 days if the change is due to a separation. This will ensure you receive the correct benefits and credits. You can inform CRA by filling out an RC65 ‘Marital Status Change Form’ or by completing their online form.
In the event that you haven’t shared your life changing news with them yet, whether happy or sad, CRA needs to know! As the well-known jingle goes “…..he knows when you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!”
We can help ensure you follow the rules.
